Python code modernization, 1/n (#1141)

Browse Source 
* Remove unicode text prefixes.

* Replace str.format() uses with f-strings.

* Replace % with f-strings, and do some cleanup.

* Fix wrong variable.

* Avoid unnecessary string conversion.
